Compare costs
The best way to understand the economic interest of home exchange, is to compare costs between that way travelling versus staying in a hotel. You will see, it is impressive. Be carefull however, comparisons which follow are just examples. They do not constitute in anyway a commitment of Camago !
In the three examples to follow, the assumption for the hotel is a two star residence, with limited comfort and no swimming pool. The hotel includes only breakfast, all the other meals are taken out of the hotel. The simulation is for a family of four persons, two adults and two children.
Two weeks in Montreal
In a hotel two stars without status, with a room which will sleep four persons, the night cost price can be 100 $. We thus estimate the fortnight at about 1500 $ minimum. The restaurant for four persons, at a reasonable address can amount to 75 $. That leads to a total of 2250 $ for two meals a day during fortnight.
>>The average budget for the full vacation will be at least 3750 $.
Two weeks in Paris
Paris is a more expensive city than Montreal. In the same situation, we can estimate the average hotel budget at 2475 $ (165 $ per night) and the average meal budget at 2700 $ (90 $ per meal).
>>The average budget for the full vacation will be at least 5175 $.
Two weeks in Sydney
In the case of Sydney, we can expect a cheaper journey than in the two other cities. Possible budgets can be 105 $ per night and 60 $ per meal.
>>The average budget for the full vaccation will be at least 3375 $.
These calculations illustrate how big the savings are, when we go to house swap. At least 3500 $ savings for a fortnight exchange. This is a minimum figure as we did not include in these examples all the small purchases which we make when we spend all day outside, as it is the case for a family staying in the hotel…
- Previous tip: To swap, be open minded
